Tiger Beetle

Not the best shot of a Tiger Beetle but it was on the screened in porch and I captured it in a jar. He/she is a beautiful iridescent green with six white spots on it's back. It can run fast and fly and will bite you if you try to handle it. But, on the good side it will eat ants, spiders and other small prey, which I consider a good reason for release.

  1. Wow, you know a lot about bugs. I love it's emerald green color. A bug that eats spiders, now there's a switch ;-) Everything in nature has a purpose and far be it from us to decide what has and what hasn't a right to live. I never kill anything either, unless it's in the house and it looks scary because I'm afraid for my dog, Gizzy, who is very short and low to the ground...I do try to relocate them outside, except for the cockroach (sorry!)
